What MOQ means, and how to find low-MOQ manufacturers

MOQ stands for minimum order quantity: the smallest order a supplier will accept. For a new brand it is often the number that decides who you can work with at all.

The minimums hide in different places

• Units per SKU. The most common form, for example "500 units".
• Per scent, color or size. A 500-unit minimum may apply to each variant, not to the product overall.
• Batch size by weight or volume. Some makers quote bulk batches in kilograms, gallons or pounds instead of units.
• Order value. Some suppliers set a dollar minimum instead, such as Jedwards International ($150, any products combined).
• Component minimums. Your manufacturer may take 500 units, but custom-printed bottles or cartons can require far more. Stock packaging avoids this.

Why minimums exist

Every run has fixed setup work: cleaning and sanitizing equipment, weighing raw materials, quality checks and paperwork. Ingredients are also bought in minimum pack sizes. A minimum makes sure the run covers those costs.

How to find low-MOQ manufacturers

1. Filter by published minimums. Every listing here shows the MOQ when the company publishes one. Use the "Minimum order" filter on all suppliers.
2. Start with stock formulas. White label programs usually have the lowest minimums.
3. Use stock packaging and digital labels. That keeps component minimums from forcing a bigger run.
4. Start with fewer variants. One scent in two sizes is easier to meet than five scents.
5. Ask directly. Many manufacturers will quote a pilot or test batch even when the website doesn't mention one.
